Minister of Transport Eng. Wesam Altahtamouni visited the Jordan Shipping Association (JSA) yesterday, where she was warmly received by Chairman Dr. Dureid Mahasneh, board members, and key figures from Jordan’s maritime industry. The visit highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to fostering closer ties with the shipping sector.
Dr. Mahasneh welcomed Minister Altahtamouni, expressing his gratitude for her engagement with the association. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Ministry and the shipping industry, noting that it benefits both the sector and the Jordanian economy. He praised the minister’s willingness to address industry challenges and work collaboratively toward solutions.
Minister Altahtamouni, in turn, expressed her pride in meeting industry leaders who play a critical role in supporting Jordan’s economy through their representation of global shipping lines. She highlighted the essential role the JSA plays in helping Jordan navigate logistical and economic challenges.
During the meeting, Secretary-General Capt. Mohammad Dalabieh presented an overview of the JSA’s key activities over the past year, including training programs aimed at strengthening human capital in the industry. He also highlighted the successful hosting of the Federation of National Associations of Ship Brokers and Agents (FONASBA) annual meeting, which placed Jordan on the global maritime map.
Assistant General Manager Mr. Raad Hakouz detailed JSA’s recent digitization project, which introduced an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system designed to make all association activities paperless. This system aligns with global sustainability goals and positions Jordan at the forefront of digital transformation in the region. The portal facilitates access to key industry data, regulations, and agent interactions, all through a locally developed platform.
Minister Altahtamouni praised the digitization efforts and expressed her support for integrating the JSA’s portal with the Ministry to streamline information flow. She also congratulated the JSA on hosting the FONASBA conference, recognizing its importance in strengthening Jordan’s position in global shipping.
A productive discussion followed, where the minister and JSA members addressed current challenges facing the Jordanian shipping industry, including the Red Sea crisis, regional port cooperation, and issues related to port operations, tariffs, and the trucking sector.
Minister Altahtamouni reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to partnering with the private sector, emphasizing the importance of ongoing dialogue. Dr. Mahasneh concluded by thanking the minister for her visit and support, looking forward to continued cooperation to advance Jordan’s port and shipping industry.
