Jordan Shipping Association Hosts Specialized Training on Letters of Credit in International Trade

The Jordan Shipping Association (JSA) successfully organized a specialized training course titled “Letters of Credit in International Trade” on February 24, 2025, at its headquarters in Amman. The training, led by Ms. Reem Samawi, attracted a broad spectrum of participants from the maritime, banking, and logistics sectors, including shipping agencies, freight forwarders, and legal professionals. The course aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of documentary credits, their legal and financial implications, and their role in facilitating international trade transactions. Given the increasing complexity of global trade, the workshop provided valuable insights into risk management, banking procedures, and the correct application of documentary credits in shipping and logistics.

The training agenda was meticulously structured to cover all critical aspects of letters of credit, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience. The sessions introduced participants to the fundamentals of international trade, defining global trade frameworks and payment mechanisms. A key focus was on the different types of documentary credits, their legal basis, and their role in protecting trade parties. Participants examined the required documents in trade finance, including transport documents and bills of lading, and explored the importance of Incoterms in international transactions. Discussions highlighted the significance of delivery terms in outlining buyer and seller responsibilities under different contractual conditions. Another critical aspect of the training was the integration of digital banking technologies, where participants examined the role of financial technology in documentary credits and the potential application of blockchain for secure and transparent transactions.

The course aligned with JSA’s commitment to enhancing professional competencies in the maritime and logistics sectors. By equipping industry professionals with a deeper understanding of financial and legal trade mechanisms, the association aims to support efficient and secure trade transactions within Jordan’s maritime industry. Participants expressed appreciation for the practical case studies and interactive discussions, which helped bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world trade practices. The event also served as an important networking platform for professionals engaged in international shipping, trade finance, and logistics.

Upon completion of the training, participants received official certification from the Jordan Shipping Association, accredited by the Jordanian Maritime Authority. The event’s success underscores the association’s role in fostering knowledge-sharing initiatives that contribute to the overall development of Jordan’s maritime and trade sectors. With the growing emphasis on international trade efficiency, JSA continues to lead industry efforts in professional development, offering high-quality training programs that empower professionals with up-to-date knowledge and skills
