As part of its continuous efforts to develop the capacities of professionals in the shipping and maritime transport sector, the Jordan Shipping Association organized a specialized training course titled:
“Cargo Claims and Insurance”
The course was delivered by Captain Firas Al-Deek from the Jordan Academy for Maritime Studies.
The course covered the following topics:
- Introduction to marine insurance
- Types of cargo-related claims
- Steps for handling claims
- Duties of the insured in case of damage
- Reasons for claim rejection
- Overview of hull & machinery insurance and P&I Clubs
- Risk management and legal aspects of claims
Course objectives:
- To understand the fundamentals and scope of marine insurance, particularly cargo insurance.
- To learn about the types of cargo claims, how to handle and document them.
- To identify the causes of claims and how to calculate the correct claim value.
- To understand the responsibilities of both the insured and the insurer in the event of damage.
- To review key legal clauses, exceptions, and international conventions that influence claims handling.
- To explore the role of Protection & Indemnity (P&I) Clubs, Hull & Machinery (H&M) insurance, and Open Policy documents in mitigating cargo-related risks.
This course comes as part of a series of training programs organized by the Association to enhance the skills of its members and keep pace with developments in the maritime and shipping sector.
